Where to eat in Nancy?

The Merchant Brothers

The restaurant and its atmosphere

In a restaurant with an original and unique concept, you'll delight your taste buds in five distinct atmospheres. The Winstub, formerly Rôtisserie le P'tit Cuny, offers a taste of traditional Alsatian and Lorraine cuisine. The Library, formerly Léz'Art, is cozy and refined. The Winter Garden is bright and contemporary. The Cheese Bar is gourmet and original. And finally, the Lounge is where you can relax as if you were at home!

Kitchen side

In the kitchen, Les Frères Marchand prepare regional dishes that are both traditional and inventive. Indulge in generous Lorraine and Alsatian specialties, to be enjoyed in one of the restaurant's five distinct atmospheres. We particularly love the Flammenküches, the braised Wadele, and the Gros Lorrain salad au gratin on a bed of grated potatoes.

L'excelsior

The most excellent

L'excelsior

Upon arriving at the Excelsior, you will immediately feel a different atmosphere from other traditional dining establishments. A unique atmosphere, that of a brasserie.

The brasserie, located in the former Hôtel d'Angleterre at 50 rue Henri Poincaré in Nancy, has withstood the wars and urban developments of the last century. The building has been a listed historical monument since 1976 thanks to a handful of Nancy residents passionate about Art Nouveau and enamored with the place.

The hotel boasts a magnificent Art Nouveau main hall and several lounges furnished for your business meetings, lunches, or family gatherings. You'll find what you're looking for at the Excelsior; it will offer you an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.

Built in 1911 in the Art Nouveau style, the brewery perfectly blends industry and art. This artistic movement, from the late 19th to the early 20th century, encompasses the aesthetics of curved lines.

The Excelsior was immediately embraced by the people of Nancy, who made it an essential meeting place. It quickly became a hub for anecdotes and laughter, card games and dates, business lunches and intimate dinners, love at first sight and reunions. Within its walls, the first melodies from New Orleans were sung, which would give birth to the famous Nancy Jazz Festival.

La place Stanislas à Nancy

Stanislas Square

1755: Wine flowed from the fountains when Stanislas inaugurated one of the most beautiful squares in the world, making Nancy the City of the "Golden Gates." This square alone is worth the trip and was voted France's Favorite Monument in 2021. It is part of an 18th-century ensemble, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, comprising three squares: Place de la Carrière, Place d'Alliance, and the Arc de Triomphe. The last Duke of Lorraine implemented a comprehensive urban planning program aimed at connecting the Old and New Towns of Nancy.

Verrière art nouveau crédit Lyonnais Nancy

Art Nouveau glass roof of Crédit Lyonnais

This monumental 250m² glass roof is one of the masterpieces of Jacques Gruber, a stained-glass artist from the Nancy School. It illuminates the bank's lobby. Clematis vines twine around the metal structure reproduced on the glass. In the center, the monogram CL displays the bank's name. Even if the bank is closed, feel free to enter: the glass door to the left of the metal shutter at the lobby entrance offers a glimpse of it.

Le musée des beaux arts à Nancy

The Museum of Fine Arts

From its location on Place Stanislas, the Museum of Fine Arts stands as a beacon of cultural life in Nancy. The museum showcases some of the greatest names in European art history: Perugino, Caravaggio, Rubens, and Delacroix, among others. Its collections are particularly rich in 20th-century works, notably the Daum glass collection, displayed within the historic fortifications of Nancy, and the space dedicated to the architect Jean Prouvé.

La villa Majorelle

The Majorelle villa

Nancy's first Art Nouveau house

Designed by architect Henri Sauvage and built around 1901-1902 for the artist Louis Majorelle, and classified as a Historical Monument, it is an emblematic house of Nancy's Art Nouveau style.

The Villa Majorelle occupies a very special place in the history of architecture. The first entirely Art Nouveau house in Nancy, it testifies to a perfect collaboration between Parisian and Nancy artists. Thus, alongside Henri Sauvage, we find the names of Jacques Gruber for the stained glass, Alexandre Bigot for the stoneware, Francis Jourdain and Henri Royer for the paintings, not forgetting Louis Majorelle himself for the ironwork, woodwork and furniture, and Lucien Weissenburger for the execution and supervision of the construction site.

Open to the public since 1997, the Villa Majorelle still bears witness, both in its exterior architecture and in its interior decoration, to the notion of the unity of art advocated by the artists who were members of the École de Nancy.

La place de la carrière

The quarry's location

The third site in the UNESCO 18th-century architectural ensemble, this square, created in the 16th century and then remodeled in the 18th, was originally a place for jousts and tournaments, hence its name "Carrière" (Quarry). At the entrance to the square, two buildings face each other: the Hôtel de Craon (Court of Appeal) and the Bourse du Commerce (Administrative Court). At the other end stands the Palais du Gouvernement (Government Palace), framed by a semicircle adorned with ancient deities, which, under Stanislas, housed the intendant, the representative of the King of France.

Porte de la craffe

Craffe Gate

This is the oldest monument in Nancy's historic center and the only remaining vestige of the medieval fortifications. Now a symbol of the Old Town district, it was built in the 14th and 15th centuries, and its towers served as a prison until the 19th century. Its brick and stone vault, restored in 2013, is truly remarkable.

Visible only from the outside.
